GOLDEN FOOD BANK

The Golden Food Bank is a non profit and charity serving residents of the Golden Area. The Food Bank is located across from the public pool. We provide a number of services including food hamper distribution, local food recovery, and learning opportunities around gardening and food production.

Food Distribution
This program provides households with up to two hampers per month filled with pantry staples, fresh produce, meat, dairy, toiletries, and baby formula. Diapers and pet food are often available as well. Community members facing food insecurity can visit during one of two weekly distribution days and select items using our grocery-shopping model, or delivery services are available for those who are unable to access services in person due to transportation or mobility barriers.

To use the program, proof of residency in Golden or Area A and government-issued ID for each member of your household is required. There is no income threshold used to determine eligibility, as we know there are many factors that may cause someone to become food insecure. Emergency food hampers available for those who are unable to show proof of residency.

Food Recovery
Food recovery is run through partnerships with local businesses and provincial food bank networks who have food that is still fit for consumption but can no longer be sold. Local food sellers can contact us about any items they have available to donate, diverting good food from the landfill and allowing us to repurpose it to help feed our community.

Other Programs
The Golden Food Bank partners with the Golden Farmers’ Market Association and other local community service providers to deliver the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program.

We host workshops with experienced facilitators throughout the year for anyone in the community to learn about gardening, growing your own food, preservation, and cooking. Registration for the workshops is online.

Volunteers are an important part of daily operations at the Golden Food Bank. There are opportunities to help with food recovery and processing, organizing inventory, stocking shelves, garden and grounds maintenance.
